Serbia returns the remains of ethnic Albanian war victims to Kosovo

PRISTINA, Serbia-Montenegro (AP) - Serbian authorities on Wednesday returned the remains of about 45 ethnic Albanians killed during the Kosovo war, a forensic expert said.

The remains are believed to be those of ethnic Albanian civilians killed by Serb forces during the 1998-1999 war and removed from Kosovo in an apparent cover-up attempt by former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic.

The remains were handed over to the U.N. authorities in the border area of Merdare, 40 kilometers (25 miles) north of the provincial capital, Pristina.

Once transferred to Kosovo, the authorities will conduct an additional examination before the bodies are given to the families for burial. The victims are believed to be from across the province.

Out of some 836 bodies of Kosovo Albanians found in mass graves in Serbia, 661 have been returned to their families, said Arsim Gerxhaliu, of the office for missing persons and forensics. The families have repeatedly demanded that all the war dead exhumed be returned immediately. Nearly 3,000 people are still listed as missing from the conflict.

The bodies were mainly exhumed from a Serb police training center just outside Belgrade.

NATO launched a bombing campaign in 1999 to halt the crackdown of Milosevic's troops on independence-seeking ethnic Albanians in Kosovo. Since then it has been administered by the United Nations.

Hundreds of bodies recovered from mass graves in Kosovo and Serbia are awaiting identification by matching DNA from bone samples with that of the relatives of missing people.

The fate of the missing is one of the most sensitive and emotionally charged issues between the two former foes.

The two sides have been seeking solutions in several meetings since earlier this year when Serbian and Kosovo officials resumed talks aimed at establishing the whereabouts of ethnic Albanians, Serbs and others who vanished during the war.

War is hell. You wanted war. You get dead bodies. Where are those 100,000 dead bodies Clinton spoke of anyway?

Anonymous said...

Some of the children couldn't even speak yet, let ask for anything.

On the other hand, be careful what you ask because you might just get it.

I am an American and I don't care about what you saw. Albanians wanted war. They got it. Dead bodies happen. Tough shit. Now they have to make peace. They haven't. They remain occupied. End of story.

Who did you work for, Dan Rather? He is a real credible source...

Like the guy said, where are the 100,000 bodies like Clinton said?

You are as full of shit as all the other reporters.

Try reporting both sides and not just one next time.

putz of albania get your facts straight as pointed out in one of your other bullshit attempts of FACTS or in your case revisionist history.

Dunno what Clinton said, I do know Serbs murdered and raped, and I do know no sane American (unlike the above Serbs) would support such a thing.

War is hell, but what we had was terrorism, Serbs attacking civilians. Civilians made up of women, children and elderly. This is not war, this is the same mindset that made September 11, London, Madrid, people who believe and act in such barbaric ways that they make you wish there was an actual war happening.

The murderers fled when the British, Ghurhka, Americans, Germans, Italians, Dutch, Spaniards, French, Greeks, Germans, Swedes, Finns, Irish, Austrians, Belgians, entered Kosova to free it from terrorism.

Those same monsters ran away from Afghanistan, and are in Iraq...by monster I mean people that embrace hate and act upon it by murder/rape.

Anonymous said...

I would like to add that until Serbs like above don't change their point of view (racism and hate) there is no need for Albanians to prove that Kosova needs to be independent...after all would you live in the same house with a satanist?

I am also an American and I would also like to know where the 100,000 dead are. After all that is what the Clinton Administration lead us Americans to believe we were fighting for and spending are hard earned tax dollars on. There was no mention of an independance movement!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

The 100,000 are somewhere in Serbia berried and hidden. One day you’ll turn them back, when your mentality changes. Nationalism and destruction still runs in your veins.

Anonymous said...

They are burned in the industrial ovens in Serbia. That is why you threatened the head of the Helsinki Commitiee in Serbia which is a Serbian. She was the one who made that statement and not only once. There's another 3 000 dead bodies burried in mass graves around Serbia.

Ignore the Serbs who speak in the name of US citizens. Lying is what these people do best and identity theft is just a part of this lie.
We're dealing with people in a country where 50 % of the population does not finish the 8 th grade. This was said a month earlier by the Serb Ministry of Education. We're dealing with a bunch of idiots.

If the prewar population of the province of kosovo was 2,000,000 and ethnic albanians accounted for 90% that would equal 1,800,000. How could ethnic Albanians still account for 1,800,000 of the population of kosovo if 100,000 have been killed?

I'm sorry but I met an awful lot of uneducated ethnic Albanians both in the United States (Bronx, NY) and Tetovo, Macedonia. Albanians are not exactly known for their intellect. They are best known for the crimes they commit, I guess so serbs were taught by the best.

Anonymous said...

That's not fair, I once new an Albanian that went to college, I'm still waiting to meet one that graduated.

Anonymous said...

savages those albos are, the whole world knows that.

Anonymous said...

My oh my...now isnt this racism or what? Dear Serb, those dead bodies, this news article mentions, were murdered in your name...do you or do you not support the actions of those that commited this crime and countless others?

If yes, then the story ends there, and I assume you deep in your mind think, "they must all be killed, they are animals"...

If no, then we have a good start, we can slowly reintegrate with Europe and you can learn to be civilized and respect others, and we (Albanians) can learn to respect ourselves and be less hot-headed.

There are flaws in everyone, but it is amazing the lengths you go to fueled by racism.

What about the near civil war started in Macedonia in 2001 was that caused by the Serbs as well. It's funny how the Albanians are always victims.

Anonymous said...

Why is it that during the war in 1999 the Serbs allegedly ethnically cleansed the province of kosovo of Ethnic Albanians but didn't cleanse the Presevo Valley as well? And why is Serbia the most ethnically mixed republic today of all the former yugoslav republics (Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, Macedonia, Bosnia)? Why would anyone other than Serbs remain in Serbia if the Serbs were so bad?

Anonymous said...

Let me guess why Serbia is so multiethnic. Maybe because it conquered Bosniak, Albanian, Hungarian, and Croat territories. You've gotta love Slovenians, they stay clear of the mess and keep their territory clean so there isn't a problem later on.

Across history you notice the trend of Serbs asking for too much and ending up with nothing.

By the way, Presheva Valley is about 50% cleansed. If you happend to travel to Fushe Kosove (K. Polje), you will see the houses Albanians from the Valley have bought from Serbs.

Anonymous said...

...all of those governments must know something about the albanians...could it be their criminal violent hate-filled nature? Why is it that? Who is to blame? Everyone but albanians....
none of your neighbors can stand you. There is an old saying that goes something like this: you can tell more about a person not by what the person says, but by what is said about that person...what is said about albanians by their neighbors speaks volumes about your nation.

THere was no genocide in Kosovo. Why must you lie? The truth is uglier that that. Serbs were defending themselves from the terrorist KLA.

HUMAN RIGHTS WATCH (USA)

UNDER ORDERS: War Crimes in Kosovo

1. Executive Summary [EXCERPT ONLY]
Abuses by the KLA

As presented in the Background chapter, the KLA was responsible for serious abuses in 1998, including abductions and murders of Serbs and ethnic Albanians considered collaborators with the state. In some villages under KLA control in 1998, the rebels drove ethnic Serbs from their homes. Some of those who remained are unaccounted for and are presumed to have been abducted by the KLA and killed. According to the International Committee of the Red Cross, ninety-seven Kosovo Serbs who went missing in 1998 were still missing as of May 15, 2000.

Anonymous said...

The KLA detained an estimated eighty-five Serbs during its July 19, 1998, attack on Orahovac. Thirty-five of these people were subsequently released but the others remain missing as of August 2001. On July 22, 1998, the KLA briefly took control of the Belacevac mine near Obilic. Nine Serbs were captured that day, and they remain on the ICRC's list of the missing.

Anonymous said...

In September 1998, the Serbian police collected thirty-four bodies of people believed to have been seized and murdered by the KLA, among them some ethnic Albanians, at Lake Radonjic near Glodjane (Gllogjan). Prior to that, the most serious KLA abuse was the reported killing in August of twenty-two Serbian civilians in the village of Klecka, where the police claimed to have discovered human remains and a kiln used to cremate the bodies.

Anonymous said...

The KLA, which evolved between 1996 and 1999 from a scattered guerrilla group to an armed movement and ultimately to a more formidable armed force, engaged in military tactics in 1998 and 1999 that put civilians at risk. KLA units sometimes staged an ambush or attacked police or army outposts from a village and then retreated, exposing villagers to revenge attacks. Large massacres sometimes ensued, helping publicize the KLA's cause and internationalize the conflict.

Anonymous said...

Elements of the KLA are also responsible for post-conflict attacks on Serbs, Roma, and other non-Albanians, as well as ethnic Albanian political rivals. Immediately following NATO's arrival in Kosovo, there was widespread and systematic burning and looting of homes belonging to Serbs, Roma, and other minorities and the destruction of Orthodox churches and monasteries. This destruction was combined with harassment and intimidation designed to force people from their homes and communities. By late-2000 more than 210,000 Serbs had fled the province; most of them left in the first six weeks of the NATO deployment. Those who remained were increasingly concentrated in mono-ethnic enclaves, such as northern Mitrovica, Kosovo Polje, or Gracanica.

Anonymous said...

Most seriously, as many as one thousand Serbs and Roma have been murdered or have gone missing since June 12, 1999. Criminal gangs or vengeful individuals may have been involved in some incidents since the war. But elements of the KLA are clearly responsible for many of these crimes. The desire for revenge provides a partial explanation, but there is also a clear political goal in many of these attacks: the removal from Kosovo of non-ethnic Albanians in order to better justify an independent state.

Anonymous said...

Ethnic Albanians are not exempt from the violence. Albanians accused of "collaboration" with Serbian authorities have been beaten, abducted, or killed, notably in the municipalities of Prizren, Djakovica, and Klina. Attacks against political party activists, especially against the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), continued after municipal elections on October 28, 2000.

Anonymous said...

"And yet I can provide you with just one attack of Serb troops on an Albanian village that killed more people than all those incidents you attributed to the KLA combined."
The Serbia Montenegro government was quelling a muslim-lead terrorist movement. That albanians died as a result of that should be taken up with the terrorist kla.

Anonymous said...

EVEN HUMAN RIGHTS WATCH OF THE USA CALLED THE KLA TERRORISTS. LMAO.

Anonymous said...

I guess that's why all of NATO nations sided KLA and bombed the $hit out of Serbia. That explains it.

"I guess that's why all of NATO nations sided KLA and bombed the $hit out of Serbia. That explains it."

You know, it is sad that albanians in kosovo hang their hat on this sentence. NEWSFLASH: that was before 9/11. Since then we learned we bombed the wrong side in the Balkans. How many of those muslim charities have they shut down in Kosovo and albania to date?

Continuity in Balkans
Despite the multiethnic nature of the Balkans, it seems that most inhabitants of the peninsula share common ancestors. Scientists feel that we will have a better picture of these ethnic trajectories within the next several years. The genetic marker M170 appears to have come from the Middle East to the Balkan region roughly 20,000 years ago. It seems today that this marker is unique to the Balkans area, though research suggests that about 80% of European genetic stock goes back to Paleolithic period.

It is funny for Serbs to say thinks have changed since 9/11. The most developed countries of the world bombed Serbia and yet the polls indicate that Sesejl is backened by the majority of the popullation in Serbia. Imagine Himler or Goebels being backed ny the majorty of the German popullation in the afterwar Germany. Apalling.

Encarta encyclopedia or Britanica aren't good enough for you but you had to find a website where everyone can write the bull$hit they want and get it published.

Here read from a world wide respected scientific source and not from the same bull$hit other Serbs have written before you.

Albanians are among the most ancient ethnic groups in southeastern Europe. Their ancestors, the Illyrians, were an Indo-European people who settled in the Balkans long before the Greeks. Modern-day Albania consists almost exclusively of ethnic Albanians, who call themselves Shqipetars (Sons of the Eagle). Only 5 percent of Albania’s residents are of non-Albanian heritage, most of whom are Greek.

Come to Albania and I'll be glad to show you Illyrian civilization. Pelion, Foinike, Dyrrakium,Bylis, Buthroti, Apollonia, Enkelana etc.

A small serb mind cannot conceptualize the fact that a human brain can challenge the lies and propaganda of the Serbian church and the Serbian state.

Come to Albania

You have got to be kidding. Only a volunteer victim would go to that cesspool.

Anonymous said...

you know, it is really sad to see a people cling to a myth that has not been nor can never be proven. A people without a verifiable history is kinda sad. Maybe that is why so many albanians are so violent.

Anonymous said...

I don't believe anything I read about 'victims' from Albanian sources or Nato sources. The fact is that the reporting of the war in Yugoslavia was and still is grotesquely bias against Serbia.
I knew Albanians who 'fled' from Kosovo (a province of Serbia) and arrived in London in the 90's. The first thing they did when they arrived in our sanctuary was to steal from us and import drugs and pimp poor girls from Eastern Europe whom they raped and threatened with violence to their families back home if they didn't cooperate. Read critically and any intelligent person will notice many failures in the accounts of 'Kosovars' - they are Albanians and they should live there.
