Picture of the Day - NATO's Kosovo Embarrasment

General Dragan Paskas (L) chief-of-staff of the Serbia and Montenegro army, attends a ceremony in the Kosovo capital Pristina marking the handover of command over the NATO-led peacekeeping force from France to Italy September 1, 2005. It was the first time the head of the Serbia and Montenegro army had attended the ceremony since a NATO bombing campaign expelled Serb forces from the province in 1999. Kosovo's government issued a statement shortly after the ceremony expressing its "deep resentment" at the presence of the Serbia and Montenegro military delegation in the command handover.

"The participation of a general of an army that has committed crimes in Kosovo and which up to the day has not even apologized ... is an offending act to the feelings of the citizens and an unacceptable act to us," the government said. REUTERS/Hazir Reka

This is bad. They should have invited the head of Greek, Moldovan and Tunisian armies too.

This smells bad.

Anonymous said...

I would not be surprise if Albanians decide to take the streets after this.

Anonymous said...

In fact this leaves a bad taste. I would like to know who's idea this was. Is NATO lacking of sensibility?

Anonymous said...

This proves one thing. Albanains are irrelevant! Kill as many as you want and the french will support you.

Anonymous said...

This is insulting. A Serb uniform in Kosova, what is NATO thinking?

Anonymous said...

He has a swine face.

Anonymous said...

This is the first and last time Serbian soldier enters Kosova. Next time they will be greeted by the Kosova Defense Force (KDF) led by Gen. Ceku.

Anonymous said...

Kermabon....that guy is insane. It was he who invited him.

I would be schocked if the Kosovans don't go to the streets about this!

This is madness, MADNESS!

Anonymous said...

Oh come on people don't be this damn sensitive, let him come down couple of more times and get comfortable. At least this will give some angry mofo the chance to take out their rage on someone that actually is responsible for their agony.

This is as it would be if Himler visited france. The frogs would be impotent to do anything about it but I am sure they would bitch to the USA or Britain.

Kosovo belongs to the Serbs. Welcome back!

we are waiting for you open arms. Just start coming...Bus in Merdare in 1999 was a preview for what you are about to experience on your way in...

It surely looks strange, a Serbian general attending a ceremony involving foreign occupational forces.
Treason, or a hoax?

Anonymous said...

JJ, you probably meant NATO allowing attendance of the head of a former occuping force. it's ok, it often happens with foreign bloggers.

Anonymous said...

One has to agree with JJ, its stranger from the Serb perspective than from NATO.

KFOR of course has excellent relations to Serbian forces in practical things like border control matters, the same cannot be said of KFOR relations to the KPC.

Anonymous said...

I'd echo that. Generally, relations between NATO and JNA (as was) are cordial and have been for a long time. Remember that their engagement under Partnership for Peace now goes well beyond Kosovo. It's certainly pretty offensive inviting Paskas, though. Perhaps it's time Thaci paid a visit to Belgrade.

Anonymous said...

I'll say it is a sign...and not a good one for albaniacs...seems that Kfor really appreciates their relationship with the Serb Army...what an embarrassment for albaniacs...when you nutcases riot next time, maybe KFOR will call on the Serbs to quell your bloodlust...;lololol

Anonymous said...

I hate to be the bearer of bad new but, this just doesnt bode well for the albanians. Espically now that Nato has signed 2 treaties just recently with the serbs.

Oh well, I told you this might happen..

As a Kosovar, I don't think it's the end of the world, but it was important that the Kosovars make it absolutely clear that people like him are not welcome to Kosova. And, that's what we did, we made it clear to the now former KFOR commander that the Serb uniform is not welcome, and I believe that the new commander of KFOR knows that now.

On a more serious note, this is yet again a reality check for the Serbian army and their government, making it absolutely clear to them that from now on all the can do is watch other people who control Kosova. Watch, observe, and nothing else. And, yes, needless to say, the must be invited!

Bravo General Agim Çeku! We am very proud of you!

Anonymous said...

This is all part of the plan to embrace Serbia before announcing them the future status of Kosova.
In addition, France is trying to sell Serbia military equipment worth hundreds of milions and maybe the reason this asshole was invited in Kosova by the French general is part to convince Serb general that the deal should go through. Serbian Defense minister Davinic was sacked (read resigned) couple of days ago because of this deal.

Anonymous said...

Time for the Albanians to quit their illusions in NATO. You may have had a coincidence of interests at one point, but NATO intervened for NNATO, not for Albanians, just like the US hasn't destroyed Iraq to "liberate" it. It is NATO, headed by the US, that has been denying you the right to independence for years and years now, letting you stew in instability, huge unemployment, uncertainty, not allowing you to run your own security and then blaming you for the results, and now pretend to be interested in minority rights just to keep lording it over you (maybe they should occupy Serbia, Croatia, Greece, Turkey etc until they fix up their minority rights as well).
Thus what you see in the photo is in fact perfectly logical - a head of a former foreign occupation regime consorting with heads of the current foreign occupation regime. Don't get me wrong, I'm onn your side, just that I can't believe the kind of illusions I see in your posts. The only thing you've got going for you is your own strength and I've no doubt that if any deal was done that allowed any less than independence, the Albanians would be able to deal pretty effectively with whichever foreign occupier tried to impose whatever rotten compromise.

This shows that the French and Italians are full of shit. They sabotaged the bombing campaign in 1999 and they are doing the same shit again.

The real Axis of Evil...

It always happens when the U.S. is busy with something... I wonder if it has anything to do with the hurricane...

Jacques Chirac has officially raised the French terror alert from “Run” to “Hide”.

There are only two higher alert levels in France, which are “Surrender” and “Collaborate”.

The rise was precipitated by a recent fire which destroyed France’s white flag factory - effectively crippling their military.

about time serbia gets a hand in controlling their province... a job well done, and there will be more to come

Anonymous said...

Thats right my friend. About time. As for the comments made by Kosovo's interim government (They were not informed), we say Serbia doesnt have to inform you, you are not important. Serbia's government can travel whereever they wisdh in their Serbia, which incase you forget, still includes Kosovo. As for the threats of one of the brainwashed bloggers above (stating that another Serbian uniform would be greeted by some more of your Albanian terrorists), you obviously dont understand that you're in no position to fight now, and in this case, NATO would intervene and stop your terrorism. Also, dont forget that Serbia's military is rapidly reforming (our American companies are currently supplying Serbias army with modern weaponary) and could crush Albanian terrorism at any moment, which is why Serbia has so much military power by Kosovo's border.

Anonymous said...

haha, sad and poor Serbia, it doesn't have food to feed its people and it keeps buying arms from the french. too bad they will only sell you the beta versions and keep the cream for themselves so that next time shit breaks loose, they'll destroy them from 5 km above (with UAVs this time around). What I can't undestand is who is going to use those guns with the morale being so low in Serbia. Life prisoners are always a solution but they tend to massacre and be uninterested when there isn't booty for them.

Anonymous said...

"about time serbia gets a hand in controlling their province... a job well done, and there will be more to come"

Just cause a military official was invited to a military ceremony doesn't mean you control the country. This is meant to measure how mature the Albanians are, and till now I think things are going well.

As long as Serbia lives with ideas of supremacy which they have been brainwashed with, the terrorism will come from only one side, Serbia.

NATO invited you to show impartiality, but it invited you to a ceremony that hands over control from one contingent to another contingent showing the Serbs, "this is not in your hands" and asking the Albanians "are you ready to make peace with Serbs".

Please, when you make any statements here, get off whatever drug you are on, that is blocking your view of reality.

Must be hurting that a serbian general has to be flown in, invited and sit like a duck while KFOR shows him who is running kosova!

Rroftë Republika e Kosovës dhe vdekje per armikët!

this provocation is part of the ongoing ´´Kosovo experiment´´-international community has no clue what will be the final solution...but they don´t realise one thing:people who live there will decide their destiny and guess what:90 percent are albanians...hmmmm take a wild guess what they wan´t!!!

Anonymous said...

This was a way for the French to say thanks to the Serbs for buying their guns. Nothing to worry about, that is all the French have in their hands and now they don't anymore.

Anonymous said...

Hello I'm a serb nationalist chetnik and I don't understand why albanians is so mad that paskas went to kosovo. I could understand if someone who did crimes like arkan went to kosovo you could be mad then but what is wrong with paskas he never did nothign bad? Do you shiptars think that every single serb soldier is a criminal because if so then every serb male is a criminal since military service is mandatory in serbia.

Anonymous said...

Serbia didn't buy no guns from france, quit making up lies. If you knew anything you would know we make our own guns and even tanks and missiles and light jets. The only thing we can't make are really advanced things like air superiority fighter jets but we would probably buy those from russia not france.

Anonymous said...

the propensity for violence for albanians is just a reaction to bad shit, for example, a serb general comes to Kosova, two "innocent" teenagers get dropped. Yea I know, it is sad and perhaps uneccessary but son what goes around comes around so say hi to that fat fuck general.

As far as the serb making guns and tenks, would someone remind them that the crap they make always jammed and they no longer can afford the russian or french shit. I mean we kicked them out of the drug busniess, we stole all theirs sluts so they no longer have any viable industries.

And when it comes to NATO, fuck them too since we'll skip those fools as well as EU and just straight up join the USA.

Alright now everyone can chill.

Anonymous said...

"...more albaniac threats...yawn...I guess that is why KFOR is reconfiguring their troops in the area---is your propensity for violence a genetic or simply a genetic mutation?"

First, its Albanian, not albanic (that doesnt exist).

Second, you speak of genetic mutation and predisposition to violence and then in a post earler you say Serbia makes its own guns, the implication here is clear. We have and never will have a weapons industry, we don't need it, we want peace. What does Serbia want?

to serb nationalist chetnik:
I agree with you that not all Serb uniforms are guilty and that Paskas is ok. The issue here is the government was not informed (45 minutes before the ceremony), as well as the fact that to most Albanians the uniform symbolizes something close to what a swastika is for the Jews. I am sorry for this but this is how it is. I think the best thing for Serbia is to upgrade their uniforms in the close future as to distance itself from the images of the 90s.

Anonymous said...

"And when it comes to NATO, fuck them too since we'll skip those fools as well as EU and just straight up join the USA"

America doens't want you...we are distancing ourselves from you...George Bush isn't a fool---he knows as do the Europeans what a mess the albanian nation is...taking your lawlessness wherever you go...no thanks. America doesn't want you....hell, Europeans have had their fill of you. They rounded you up in the middle of the night to send you back to Kosovo right after the bombing...they couldn't wait to get rid you you....geesh. Get real.

Anonymous said...

Of course they got rid of us now that Kosova will become a state. I.e. there is no need for all those Albanians to live as imigrants, they have an option to return.

I didnt know a Serb is in charge of the US foreign policy. Is that why you attacked your friend Saddam Hussein? After all the help he gave you in 1999 against NATO, you back stab him and send in the US into Iraq? Typical Serb. What is next? Will you attack China too?

Anonymous said...

europe rounded up albanians in the middle of the night--emptied out their jails of you and shipped you back to a bombed out Kosovo...to a place that had no services to accomodate the shipments of people...the Powers that be in Kosovo asked Europe to STOP AIRLIFING ALBANIANS TO KOSOVO---unheard of in international circles...what an embarrassment to albanians..but it speaks volumes of what the governments of Europe think of your nation....

Anonymous said...

All this French bashing..... Didn't the KOSOVO Government just sign a deal with a French Government owned telecommunications company ALCATEL for a 35 billion euro telephone upgrade? Try if you might and blame the UN for this one but this was an all Kosovo deal........Since when does KFOR or NATO answer to a protectorate anyway? We have fellow Americans suffering from the worst natural disaster in our countries history and we are still here, stopping you guys from killing each other. Nothing has changed and nothing will change after we leave. The sooner the better. Your hate and bitterness will aid in your self destruction.

It is a fact that the USA has helped Albanians more than once throughout our history.

Anonymous said...

The USA and the rest of the world knows what pieces of crap the Serbs are; that's why they bombed you. Remeber the bombs were blasting in Belgrade and you were sleeping in underground bunkers, keeping company to the sewage systems. Shitheads.

Anonymous said...

As an American, I can tell you that I am ashamed of our bombing of the Serbs. They were no threat to our national security. Based on the behavior of the Albanians in Kosovo since that bombing, I have concluded that we bombed the wrong side.

Anonymous said...

Yes. Most of senior US official think that now. Kosova will certainly not be independent.

Anonymous said...

As an American I now can tell you that I am proud that our government bombed Serbia and punished the war criminals, the anti humanists, the genocide makers and the children killers. As an American I can say that we have a couple of things in common with the Albanians.

1.In our foreign policy we are on the same spectrum meaning that we generally agree with each other and do not agree with Russia, France and anti-american propaganda.
2. We are allies in Afganistan and Iraq.
3. We have missions in Bosnia also.
4. Albanians are very tolerant. The fact that they've never engaged in religious war says it all how open minded they are ( Unlike the Serbs who went and killed children in the name of God, or killed children because they belonged to another religion)

I know that the USA after the WWI prevented the Russians and Serbs from completley destroying Albania as we know it today, and their anihilation.

I know that the Albanian people are one of the most pro American people in the world.

I feel proud that my government was able to end the killing of children and create a democratic society.

I say to my Albanian friends keep up the good work and we'll always be with you.

Albanians have contributed foot soldiers to Al Qaeda. No Serbs have joined forced with muslim terrorists. That is America's major concern.

Anonymous said...

The war against the Serbs has been the greatest Islamic gain in the civilized world in several hundred years. They are very proud of this achievement and it will be quite the battle to push them out of there.

The insurgents in Iraq would leave in a minute if we tried it...they would head to Europe to defend their gains and worry about Iraq later.

Anonymous said...

Albanians have joined forcec with USA in Afganistan, Iraq and Bosnia. We have military squads there.
There has never been an Albanian foot soldier joining Al Qaeda. This is another Serb lie.

However Serbia had very close relations with Sadam Husein. The Madrid Bombers where hiding in Serbia and the Israeli Secret service linked Belgrade with the Bombings in London. The international community has put dozens on Serbs in trial for the killings of thousands of children in
Bosnia, Croatia, and Kosovo.
Belgrade is the greatest threat to peace in the Balkans.

Anonymous said...

"There has never been an Albanian foot soldier joining Al Qaeda. This is another Serb lie."

I can understand your denial. You have to deny it. You can't face the ugly truth. Take it up with USA Today:

"Perhaps most telling about the minds of those who trained here is a document found at the camp. "I am interested in suicide operations," wrote Damir Bajrami, a 24-year-old ethnic Albanian from Kosovo, on his entry application in April 2001. "I have Kosovo Liberation Army combat experience against Serb and American forces. I need no further training. I recommend (suicide) operations against (amusement) parks like Disney."

http://www.usatoday.com/news/sept11/2001/11/26/cover.htm

You won't read of any Serbs in Al Qaeda training camps....Serbs have been fighting muslim terrorists. We Americans were duped by Clinton. We bombed the wrong people.

Is that why Sadam and the government of Serbia where in close collaboration until he got his a$$ whipped by the USA? What Serbs were doing was a threat to global security. It was not only a serb individual who was aiding terrorism, it was the the state of Serbia and its elected government institutions. The Serbs state agenda was to aid Sadam and terrorism. Why would a terrorist hide in Serbia after the bombings in Madrid? Simple because Serbia did not pose any threat to them on the contrary it helped them achieve their objectives.

Anonymous said...

spew as much as you wish regarding Serbs, it matters not as there have not been any serb al qaeda operatives in Serbia ---however; serbs did arrest one who fled there recently.

There have been no muslim charities with al qaeda links closed in Serbia either.

THere have been no Serbian al qaeda members either. Seems like you albanians can't claim the same...keep you eye on the ball---muslim terrorism is the USA's primary concern globally...locally, it is the gulf coast.

Demonize Albanians as you want but Hague's jails are filled with Serb former government officials for having commited crimes against humanity.

We Americans we'll always be on the Albanian's side just as President Willson prohibited the anihilation of the Albanian nation from Russia, Serbia and Greece just as we prohibited the mass murder of two million Albanian Kosovars at the turn of the century we will prohibit Kosova from returning to the hands of the same criminals that killed and mutilated chidren.

The same church who kissed the hands of the criminals who killed children and raped pregnant women. Yes your highest priest did it and it is on video. He even blessed them before and after they commited such crimes. In case you were busy watching "Wag the Dog", it was all over CNN and BBC.
The same church that is intervening in internal affairs of Macedonia.
The same church that ordered the murder of your prime minister.
The same church that is hiding and helping war criminals like Mladic and Karadjic.
The same church that only two years ago viewed Pope John Pole II as its arch enemy.
The same church that has created a state capture today in Serbia.
The same church that advocates wars and mass murder.
The same church that has built most of its building in Kosovo over Orthodox and Catholic Albanian Churches.

Now this is anything but a christian church. This criminal organisation is tainting Christianity world wide.

The dude speaking in the name of a USA citizen doesn't know or acts like he doesn't know the fact that the Muslim Albanians funded the translation of the first Bible into Albanian. That says it all.

This was at a time when Serbia in Kosova, Greece in southern parts of Albania, Italy also in southern parts of Albania and the Austro-Hungarians did not want the christian Albanians to be able to have a bible in their language because that would mean they would be independent from their wrath.

No we Americans don't know those things, we know that Sadam and Serbia had a really closed collaboration. We know that Kosova is the number one pro American place in the world. This is from a Gallup poll. So what you say above is not true. You can't be a jihadist and the most pro American country in the world.
On the other hand if you're anti-American there is a high probability that you can collaborate with terrorists. That's what Sadam and Slobodan did and that was backed up by the whole people of Serbia.
Do u remember the Anti-American chants in Belgrade. Belgrade and its courts sentenced to prison President Clinton, Madeline Albright, Tony Blair, Wesley Clark, Lord Robertson and the rest of the NATO members. There were arrest warrants against these leaders of the world and say they were in Serb territory those days they were to be jailed.
We as Americans should be worried from countries like these who have not hesitated to kill children, rape pregnant women, cut open their wombs in their past in order to satisfy their perverted objectives of total ethnic cleansing, religious supremacy and total control of that specific part of the world.
