PRISTINA, Serbia-Montenegro, (AFX) - Kosovo Telecom Co (PTK) said it has chosen BT Group PLC as its strategic partner to rebuild its system in the UN-administered province,.
'The PTK managing board decided that British telecom has won the international tender for the company's strategic partner,' the company's press release said.
But PTK, the only telecom provider in the UN-run province, did not unveil details of the arrangement.
The British company was chosen among four international competitors at the public tender.
Kosovo Telecom managers have often said the company needs a strong international partner to help with the transition to a market-oriented entity.
'As a telecom company, we want to know what is happening with other telecommunication companies in the world, otherwise the PTK would be in danger to remain behind them,' Gavin Jeffery, PTK managing director, told reporters in August, after the tendering procedure was over.
PTK is run by the Kosovo Trust Agency (KTA), a UN mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) agency responsible for the largest companies as well as privatization of formerly state-owned enterprises.
