EU opposes idea of political forum replacing democratic institutions in Kosovo

Prishtina [Pristina], 11 May: The EU supports the idea of the head of UNMIK [UN Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo], Soeren Jessen-Petersen, for establishing a political forum, but it is against whatever idea to substitute the democratic institutions.

Fernando Gentilini, the special envoy of the EU Special Representative Javier Solana to Prishtina, made known this stance on behalf of the EU following a meeting with the chairman of the Democratic Party of Kosova [Kosovo] [PDK], Hashim Thaci.

"I came here on behalf of the EU to see the recent developments on this issue. The EU is against the idea that such a forum substitutes Kosovo institutions," he said.

Whereas the leader of the PDK, Hashim Thaci, has submitted today to the head of UNMIK, Soeren Jessen-Petersen, his recommendations.

He did not reveal the content of recommendations, saying that they will be made publicly known later.

Thaci also highlighted the need for a consensus on major issues. "I believe that we will have the support of the EU to reach the needed consensus," he said.
