Letter to President Rugova's Family and the People of Kosovo from the President of the United States

The White House

I was deeply saddened by the news of President Ibrahim Rugova's death. For many years, President Rugova led the campaign for peace and democracy in Kosovo, and he earned the world's respect for his principled stand against violence.
The United States has lost a true friend. Throughout years of conflict, Ibrahim Rugova was the voice of reason and moderation that helped Kosovo's people lay the groundwork for a peaceful future. The loss of that voice at this decisive time for Kosovo is particularly tragic. Let me assure you that the United States remains committed to working with all the people of Kosovo to build a future that is stable, democratic and prosperous.
On behalf of the people of the United States , Laura and I extend our condolences to President Rugova's family and to all the people of Kosovo.

Sincerely,
George W. Bush

Thank you, President Bush.

A letter signifies someone's gratitude to someone else. Mr. Bush did this and Kosova is grateful for his words. I hope he will not leave Kosovars alone in the coming months and I hope that once again US will be the engine of the independence for Kosova.

I am an American who was in KOSOVO in 99-01 seeing that we were there to support the albainians, myself and team soon relized that the Serbians were the rightful owner of KOSOVO. Rugova died from lung cancer? I thought the human body was a temple for Ali, according to the Kuran it is and smoking damages the body, hell 70% of all albanians smoke..... I could keep going on and on just want to say I pray to MY GOD that KOSOVO returns back to it's rightful owners...SERBS

Thank you President Bush!
This letter means so much to all Kosovars and to Dr. Rugova's family.
We, kosovars are deeply sad that we lost our President Dr.Rugova. He worked very hard all his life to build an independent, peacefull & democratic Kosova. God let his soul rest in peace forever, in the land that he loved so much.
Kosova is for Kosovars, for all the people that live in it. Kosova should not and will never return back to serbs.
Thanks again! God Bless USA & Kosova.

Honorable President Bush

As the family who lost a loved one in the war, I know what losing someone is.
This time we lose great. It is a person who gave to us and our children identity.
At time when kosovars grieves for the passing president we do appreciate all support given from the American people. You had shown to us what real values of democratic society are. Being lifetime grateful of what you done and hoping for the continuing support to our final vision, I thank you.

May all albanian's DIE just as the so called president did

albanians were once Christian or Orthodox but pussies that they were fell to the Ottaman Empire and became muslim, Milos Obilic had balls enough to fight as did all the Serbs unlike the albanians who just gave up their faith.

As Kosovar Albanian President goes to heaven, Serb President is allready in Hell-Hague Tribunal.
What would you prefere more...

Unbelievable! Albanians will not die as someone my wish. Our roots go way back. We were in Kosovo for centuries and we'll continue to be there forever. Eventhough the serbs tried hard to wipe us off from this world, it did not happen.
We lost our great leader but he left behind other great and smart leaders. The world have seen who Albanians are and that is why Millosheviq and other criminals are paying for what they did to albanians and others in the region.
People, people...try to love in this world and not hate for God's sake.
Dr. Rugova will lay in peace in his homeland which he fought for in a diplomatic way.
I am very proud to be an albanian and have had President Rugova lead our nation to this day.
Shame on those people, who still do not understand in the 21st century what human rights are. I could guess who those people are...

Just want to say thank you to president Bush for the letter.
I also want to support President Bush's strategy on fighting the terrorism. He really is doing the right job. He is doing what needed probably to be done long time ago. We all need to make sure that we are living in a safe world and that's exactly what President Bush is trying to do. We do not want to have people who hate, in this world. Those people should once and forever understand that hating and trying to do damage to innoccent people is Wrong.
We all appreciate USA's help in Kosovo,no matter what anyone would say.

It was disturbing to hear such tragic news, but let God rest his soul.
I am a Student at Montclair Uni. and am an Orthodox/Albanian from Tirana living in NJ, USA.
Kosovo is and always will be Serbian. However, the world does know along with the Republic of Albania, that the Albanians that live within that territory are migrated. I feel ashamed when someone from Kosovo says that they are Albanian, because they are not. They do not even pronouce nor speak proper Albanian. Its ashame that "mountain poeple" have to take Albanian identity. I do not like Kosovars, due to the reason they are religiously converted from Christian to Islam. That justifies the people as cowards. Everyone else in the Balkans kept Christianity, why didn't the Kosovars? If they had kept their initial religion Christianity, during the Ottoman empire, there would not have been any issues in the Balkans.
The Kosovars are a sold nation that need to regain their identy once again, but through other means not through claiming unrightful land as their own.

It is so awfull for an albanian to say terrible words for kosovar albanians.
We are albanians from Kosova and speak wonderful albanian. We are very smart and hard working people just as our great President Dr. Rugova was. He was and will be one of the best leaders in the albanian history (both in Albania and Kosova.
One thing that I would say: Do not ever hate anyone because they have a different religion.
If this person says that she/he is an Albanian from Albania, either is lying or just never studied the history of its own country.
It is so sad that a student in today's world would have comments like this instead of trying to make this world a better place to live.

Thank you Mr. President and thank you USA for everything you did for Albanian nation.
These are sad days for all Albanians and all the people that love peace and prosperity. We lost a great man and a great leader. My heart and prayers go to Mr. Rugovas family and thank you for sharing him with us. Let us continue our Presidents hard work and dedication to see Kosova free once and for all.
Please do not start a religious game because like a Catholic Albanian that I am, I never wanted a better president that Mr. Rugova was.

Sincerely,

Lekë Dobreci

I would also like to thank President Bush and the First Lady for their good words. Same goes for the medic team from US KFOR that treated our ailing President and did the guard of honor until TMK could take over.
It is good to know that in good and in bad times our two people will stand together.
We remember our friends.

I am an American soldier in Kosove supporting the effort to determine the future status of this land. I have seen and spoken to the youth of Kosove. If their words, their beliefs are any indication as to the future of this country, the people of Kosove and the world have every right to believe the future holds peaceful and brightful times. I have been told by many of the youth that this mans dreams of peaceful actions are their dreams also and that President Rugova believed in them, and now, they believe in his ways. I have spoeken to his political contacts and they desire the same peaceful transition as the President sought. The world should know that Kosove is a peaceful region and seeks their identity, and unity, as a stable, organized, and promising soul. God bless the people of Kosove.

To all that commented back to the Albanian/Orthodox:
Please do not think that I am Serbian. Only I can determine my nationality. That was very typical being in denial. However, on X-mas at the Adelina concert in NYC, weren't there fights and controversies there among Albanians from Albania and Kosovars? Yes, there were. They have always have had arguments amongst each other.
Please stop portraying yourselves in front of the American public as this nation of peace, because you are not. Kosovars are known to be militants, unlike Albanians that are not. Kosovars portray themselves with guns and militia all over the Internet ex. myspace.com.
Thank you for flashing my flag around in your cars, but you do not have to be so trashy about it. I feel like the Kosovars are like the Puerto Ricans, which are decendents of Spain. I am the origin "Albanian", which you’re my descendent "Kosovarian" and you poeple are like the "Puerto Ricans" of ALBANIA.
I hope everyone understands and reads in between the lines. So, please do not embarrass my culture by acting the way that you people do. Don't call yourselves Albanian, but Kosovarian. Puerto Ricans don't call themselves Spaniards, nor do Americans call themselves English, Brazilians do not call themselves Portuguese. Okay, I guess that proves my point.
Once again, have your own identity not someone else’s.

Thanks

You b. You are not albanian. Your trying for conflict is not going anywhere. Read the comments of other people and don't get back to this site.
Albanians in Kosovo and Albania are from Orthodox, catholic and muslim religions. There was never a conflict between albanians because of their religion or anything else what so ever.
Albanians from catholic faith and muslim faith lived and worked together In Kosovo forever. There was never a problem between them.

I am a Serb from Nis,

My deep sympathies goes to family of Rugova. I can only say one thing, I wish we had a leader like Rugova in Serbia.

I also wish our stupid politcians realized soon that Kosovo was never Serbian, and that Kosmet is a myth created by a criminal that sits where he belongs in Hague.

To Albanians from Kosovo I wish all the best, and success in realizing the dream and the work that their President led so perfect until now.

One day we will hopefully live like neighbours that at least respect each other (we don't need to love each other)

May peace prevail, and may we all learn something from Rugova, one of the greatest leaders Balkans ever had.

First of, I'd like to tell every each one of you that this is not a forum for your comments about who what is or what they do, nor it is some kind of an argument after Manchester United lost against Milan, or anything like it. This is a column to thank the president of the United States for wishing us condollences for our president's death, so let it be. People are mourning. Any of you that wishes to write any stuff against each other, there is all kinds of kosovars vs. serbians
forums.
Thank you Bush, even though you never read this! Tell Hillary I said thanks too!

By the way, Albanians from Albania, are you the ones that used to fake identity to greek just so you can be eligible to get outside your country and then sell drugs, I bet ya you all have 7 passports with 7 different names. You are well known in the world and yes most times they mix up Albanians and Kosovars and that's why people push away from us thinking we are one of those people that are hooked to the Italian Mafia. But, once more as I said, it is not a column to discuss stupidities. It is that our President died and respect its people as they are mourning.

Respectfully, Hida

forums and vice versa. I don't even know how could young people kill brain cells over things like arguing with people they dont even know who they are. Just a waste of time. Meantime, kosovar people are working towards their future which is good, that is all we need. Even President Bush would have said the same to you. Why do you all have to let everyone else down and then why do you all compare? It's worthless, everyone works with what they have. We are a nation and we are all going to win peacefully, and everyone is welcomed in our country, no matter the religion, race...So you all deal with our kindness.
Thank you Bush, even though you'll never read this! Tell Laura I said thanks too!

I had experienced that while I was outside the country, but it sure took me to call the police get the stalker out of my sight, that's how Albanian men are. You are well known in the world and yes most times they mix up Albanians and Kosovars and that's why people push away from us thinking we are one of those people that are hooked to the Italian Mafia. P.S.
You can all go crazy for what I care. I love my country and I am proud to have one that is not like Serbia nor like Albanian people from Albania that the whole world knows that they will kill you over 10 bucks.

God bless to y'all!

The albanian that everyone thinks is a serb - get your info right no fights broke out at the Adelina concert - if you are a true albainian from Tirana and hate albanians from Kosova so much why are you listening to our music sung by an albanian Kosovar. Stop trying to portray that you speak for albanians from albania. You say you are currently attending college, you don't seem to be learning anything, because you sound so uneducated. Maturity matters so much now a days - Silence is gold so stay silent & stop trying to act like your a real albanian. When everyone knows your NOT! GET A LIFE!
