Surroi: EU is facing a dilemma in Kosovo

In a roundtable held in Alpbach, Austria, ORA leader Veton Surroi said the European Union will once again face the Kosovan challenge and will face two basic paths in the process of resolving the status of Kosovo. One path, according to Surroi, is for the EU to create a new form of protectorate, not like Bosnia, by accepting Kosovo’s independence from Serbia and by holding the final recognition in the hands of superpowers.

Surroi said that the other path before the EU in Kosovo is the real recognition of independence and the attempt to develop the policy of conditioning in the new partnership. According to Surroi, the second path is more righteous.

Or :

3. The EU can choose to do the legal thing in accordance with international law and UNSCR resolution and return the province to Serbia.

or

4. the above blogger can read a little bit and realize that democracy states that the will of the people is the most important and the will of the people is independence, and since we are talking about a place where serbia hasn't had control in for 6 years it has no say about Kosova!

"democracy states that the will of the people is the most important"

And that is the problem friends, the Kosovar Albanians have very little understanding of democracy, they believe it to be akin to mob rule. If the vast majority of people of Kosova would want to support insurrection in Macedonia, or in Preshevo, or commit crimes like ethnic cleansing in their own country is that then most important? Their own business and nobody else?

IF Kosova is independent, it requires AT LEAST another generation before it can be trusted to act responsibly - hence the discussion of protectorates.

Then you seem to understand the Totalitarian Rule of The Supreme Serb Race. Those are word Milosevic would use.

Option 2 sounds like a more likely approach. The currently leadership of Kosovo is not ready. Some sort of mentorship from the west (EU) would be the wise choice. Anything but would be a great injustice to the Kosovar people. In the near future Kosovo has a chance to really benefit from the EU. The current leadership needs to think globally. As an American who has spent 5 years in Kosovo,(Non serb/alb) I have seen progress, hopefully it will continue. KOSOVO take advantage of the EU and there assistance. Look at what will be 5 to 10 years after independence.

If it was for the EU there would be no Albanian people living in Kosova. It would be wiser for us Albanians once indpepndence is achieved to do away with countries such as France, Greece etc who have always supported the anihilation of the Albanian people throughout centuries. Our number one ally should remain the united states.

YES! United States all the way. For better or worse, we should stay very close to America. As our beloved President Rugova says: "in permanent friendship with the United States"

Americans don't want you. After all those churches in Kosova have been demolished by albanians, we know we bombed the wrong side.
