Jessen-Petersen: Kosovo status talks should not last long

Zëri carries an interview SRSG Jessen-Petersen gave to Swiss daily ‘Tages-Anzeiger’.

SRSG said during the interview that most of the Contact Group countries agree that negotiations for solving the Kosovo’s status should not drag for a long time. Therefore, the era of UNMIK will end in 24 months to come, said Jessen-Petersen.

"The era of UNMIK will end in 24 months to come, said Jessen-Petersen"

Gotta love it. Freedom at last.

Now of course Serbs will try to occupy Kosova just like they did when the Ottoman Empire retreated, but this time it will not work!

Although UNMIK administration may come to an end during the next 24 months, Kosovo will not be without an international presence. The EU, or some other entity, will likely have to fill the void created by UNMIK's absence. Kosovo is not ready to govern itself.

Although UNMIK adminstration may end within the next 24 months, Kosovo will not be without an international presence to fill the void created by UNMIK's absence. The EU, or some other entity, will have to become more involved, and guide Kosovo for self-governance and reform. Kosovo is not ready to govern itself without outside supervision at this point.
