According to diplomatic sources, there are two options Kosovo could follow in its road to status definition. The first more practical option is the one that will recognise two main factors in resolution of status: UN SG Kofi Annan and Contact Group. The second more problematic option implies the continued role of UN SC that would also appoint the special envoy for standard assessment.
It seems that this scenario will marginalize decision-making by UN Security Council as Western centers fear that the process of solving Kosovo’s status would be extremely complicated, because of the composition of UN SC permanent members.
