Kosovo Albanians accept Mitrovica division into two municipalities

Pristina, 19 April: The Pristina [Albanian] status discussion team will concede to have two municipalities in Kosovska Mitrovica.

The Pristina negotiators will accept this proposal because they believe that this is the best way to keep Kosovska Mitrovica territorially united, adding that it will help with the inner-city integration efforts. [Passage omitted]

[Kosovo President Fatmir] Sejdiu did not want to say how many new municipalities will be created in Kosovo, and stated that it is important to make sure that the new municipalities are organized according to Kosovo laws, remain economically stable and keep a focus on their ethnic components.

How is that possible if you divide a city (Mitrovica) into two? How is dividing considered uniting? I am seriously not understanding the point this article is making.

It looks like this is finally one of the "gestures" that Ceku promissed to make towards the Serbs.

As a consession it is rather small - as it is shrouded in language about integration. But it is a step anyway. And the Serbs will be under some pressure to come up with a gesture from their side.

The Serb culture tends to value more the big gestures and grand statements, so it will interesting to see how they keep themselves in this arena of diplomatic niceties and small gestures.

As an interesting sidenote: Milosevic's love for big gestures was such that he gave away more than necessary when the Dayton agreement was closed.

The albanians will solve the North Kosova problem only like Croatians did krajina problem. And I think we got the man to do it since he was the architect of the Storm operation himself.

everybody knows that Mitrovica south can not take care of its own needs and can not resalve its problems without help and let alone to try and resalve Kosovo's crime nestle (read Mitrovica north) by itself. Giving them the power to manage their own problems will have many obligations as well - some are: resalving parallel structures issue, demilitarization of the north and property ownership rights...those issues have to be resalved through PISG.
