Serbia will not recognise independent Kosovo - ANA exclusive interview with FM Draskovic ahead of Athens visit

Serbia will not recognise an independent Kosovo,Serbia-Montenegro foreign minister Vuk Draskovic said Wednesday in an exclusiveinterview with the Athens News Agency (ANA) in Belgrade."If the leaders of the Albanians go against the will of Belgrade, the EU andthe UN, then no one in the world will recognise such independence. On thecontrary, the only thing they will manage is to render more difficult theclimate in the search for a definitive solution," Draskovic warned.Draskovic said that Serbia's proposal could be summed up with the phrase"something more than autonomy, and less than independence", adding that heconsidered the continued presence of the international administration in Kosovonecessary for many more years.Commenting on the EU position that there should not be a return to thesituation prevailing before 1999, Draskovic said it found him in agreement, butexplained that it should also be taken into consideration the fact that: "Inthe past, in tandem with the Milosevic regime's extremist position of 'fullsovereignty or death', there was also the extremism of the Albanians who stoodfor 'independence or death'. Consequently, non-return to the old regime meansrejection of both those extremist positions."Draskovic reiterated Serbia's insistence on keeping the present borders intact,explaining that "the borders with Albania and FYROM must not be renamed, andthose countries must border with the same country they border today".Asked when he anticipated the dialogue to commence on the final status ofKosovo, Draskovic said that this was not possible in 2005, adding that thenegotiations for the new status of Kosovo could not begin before theimplementation of the democratic criteria and the decentralisation policy,something which had yet to be done.He said the condition of the Serbs at this time was "not better than that ofslaves...they have no right to life, they cannot move freely, 220,000 Serbs whoabandoned Kosovo cannot return, 40,000 homes an 150 churches and monasteriesthat were destroyed over the last five years remain in ruins".Draskovic revealed to ANA that, at the UN, "the prospect of UN secretarygeneral Kofi Annan appointing two special representatives to Kosovo is beingseriously examined". One of the special representatives would deal with theassessment of the criteria, since it would be illogical for Kosovo's UNgovernor Soren Jessen-Petersen to assess his own work, while the second specialrepresentative would deal with the procedures for the final status, Draskovicexplained.Draskovic, who was due to arrive in Athens on Thursday on an official visit toGreece, said that during his meeting with Greek foreign minister PetrosMolyviatis the two men would "assess the current situation in Kosovo" and thathe would brief his Greek conterpart on Serbia's strategy regarding the futurestatus quo in the region."Greece can contribute substantially to resolving the matter of Kosovo,"Draskovic added.

the world should recognize that serbia still intends genocide in albania and probably vojvodina as well...

never forget that, when the albanians in Kosova mistakenly rose is retribution against serbs for reported attacks on albanian children, Serbs in Vojvodina attacked Hungarians!

little things like that mean a lot...

Mr. Draskovic cannot draw a parallel between a tyrannical dictator as Milosevic was and the will of K-Albanians for freedom and independence. K-Albanians are keen toward establishing democratic standards in Kosovo, and ensure equal rights for the people of Kosovo. Now it’s the last moment for the leadership in Belgrade to stop using K-Serbs as marionettes for their own political beneficiary and allow them to be integrated in a new Kosovo society.
After so many killings, massacres, rapes and devastations done from Serbian regime in Kosovo, and all this was fully supported in silence from today’s leadership in Belgrade (in opposition during Milosevic’s governing time) its absolutely nonsense and unacceptable for K-Albanians and reasonable people) to offer the latest political module “more than autonomy, less than independence”. This module was, I repeat was supposed only to be offered to K-Albanians before 1991 or let’s say 1998.

Draskovic was the one that said that he wanted every Albanian dead, during Milosevic time, and now he comes and talks about democracy.He talks in the name of the world. He forgets that they went against the world when they started the genocide. When u start a war and u lose there are sanctions u must pay. Germany lost territories to France after world war 2. Serbia is loosing Kosova, which by the way is not a Serbian territory. He says borders should not change; I agree with him. Since Kosova was taken away from Albania it has always had borders. The borders of Kosova should be respected in an independent state. Why should there be an independent Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Fyrom and not an independent Kosova. Why should there be independent slavic states and not an independent Kosovar state that has nothing in common in language, culture, ethnicity with any of these slavic state. Kosova was violently ripped appart from Albania and it will violently be removed from the terrorist Serbian state if neccessary.

It is not Serbia's decision to make. Serbia lost any legitimacy to its rule over Kosova when it attacked the people of Kosova, destroyed their homes, and drove them over the border. No legitimate government does that to its own people.

>'fullsovereignty or death', there was also the extremism of the Albanians who stoodfor 'independence or death'.

Good point mr. Draskovic;

Milosevic idea was full sovereignity or death of albanians(not serbs);
albanian's point was independence or their death (for freedom)

RE:
You know, it is people like you that support conflicts which break out. First of all you have no idea about the situation in Serbia. Kosovo should not be independent because declaring independence would break international law as well as authority and territorial integrity of the Republic of Serbia. As for Vojvodina, again you have no idea whats going on. In Vojvodina people live with real respect for each other (unlike in much more developed countries in the EU and world wide), and if for example a Serb kills a Hungarian doesn't mean it's a crime against a whole national minority. Vojvodina is the most diverse province in Europe, and it's most invulnerable to foreign influences. The so called "Free World" with countries like the US are seizing every opportunity to provoke conflicts in every region they can, if it's in their interest. In the Balkans, actions like that caused the Serb-Croat-Muslim war i the '90, not to mention the horrible bombing campaigning against Serbia in 1999. Things that people like you think and say only result in war and suffering. Once and for all, wake up people, stop spreading hate amongst people in Serbia. Politics is to blame, I agree, but people have to realize that everyone can live in peace, all it takes is a little effort, and putting the interest of the people above all others. Let there be peace in the beautiful Republic of Serbia once and for all.

Correction: "Vojvodina is the most diverse province in Europe, and it's most vulnerable to foreign influences."
