Kosovo's Thaci wants US to continue playing "leading role"

Prishtina [Pristina], 25 April: The head of the Democratic Party of Kosova [Kosovo] [PDK], Hashim Thaci, said today that the US should continue to have a leading role on the issue of standards and that of political status for Kosova.

He made those comments following a meeting with the chief of the US Office in Prishtina [USOP], Philip Goldberg.

Thaci said that they both highlighted the need for acceleration of work in implementing the standards "and thus create circumstances to have an international recognition for the reality that has been created in Kosova - recognition of Kosova's statehood," he said.

Thaci also said that he briefed the US diplomat with the concerns of the opposition with "non-democratic actions of the parliament and with the concerns raised by the PDK about instalment of political crime and economic crime in the governmental structures."

"No one is above the law and I believe that we will see quick actions from the side of domestic and international justice," he said.

Whereas Goldberg said that thy discussed the ways to overcome the currently created political climate. "The climate in the parliament and outside the parliament can sometimes become overheated and the idea now is how best to move forward on issues, on which everyone agrees here - on issues having to do with final status, status review - and create a better climate and a better position for both the opposition and the government to work together" he said.

The US should NOT be the leading role in a European region. It is a waste of US resources where no US interest lies. This is a problem the EU should deal with exclusively.

Yea let the EU deal with it and screw things over as they always do. That way you'll see another war in 4 years.

Kosovo is of NO concern of the US. The US has other problems to deal with rather than spend US tax dollars on a situation with no beneficial outcome to the US.

USA should take a leading role because it is the only country that has the strength and will to solve in a positive way the Kosova Issue. All other countries will play around with options that are not acceptable by majority of people in Kosova.

I do understand the frustration Europeans have when US gets involved i European region like Balkan, but Europe is not capable (it never was) of solving such a problem and I am glad that US is willing to invest all necessary recources in problems like this in order to solve the problem.

I love the USA. Unites States of Albania. The USA of Europe and the USA of North America are on excellent terms. Europe is incapable of dealing with the balkans. The Dutch, what a waste of protection, and the list goes on.....

It is very strange that all Kosovo Albanians are talking about independence and we, the people of US should help them. It is IMPOSSIBLE to make a new country out of a already soverign state ! This is clearly stated in th UN. I can promise you all, and I have very good insight on this topic, Kosovo will NOT be independent. Maybe more autonomous, but NEVER independent. Wait and see.

Another Serb, Russian, Slav immigrant in the USA is here.

Self-determination is a human right and as such it will be practiced by the Albanians in Kosova. There is no law on Earth that can deny independence to Kosova, there is no moral or judicial reason for it not to be independent.

In the end the formula is very simple:
Independence = Serbians and Albanians live in peace

No Independence = War with 2,000,000 Albanians either killed or refugees, and Serbia AGAIN toping the list of war-criminals

As you can see, option 2 is not good for anyone, Albanians lose, Serbs become famous for rape/murder/burning and if Serbia wants to be viewed as Japan is in China, or Arabs are in USA, or Americans are by certain parts of the world, then ta ta...

Being active in South East Europe (Balkan) is of great importance to the USA because Albania/Albanians are the only nation which sides with the USA in that region, All other countries are in non-friendly terms. We must also acknowledge that its the only part where Serbian-Russian forces can achieve their goals of European dominance, and as such USA, Germany, Britain must do all in their powers for this not to happen.

Things have changed a lot in this past century but one thing has remained the same, the forces of malice that some nations capitals and political elite practice over people.

Also to add, Kosova/Kosovo is of great importance to the USA because Europe's power is being distributed East, this means that Britain, France are not major players anymore, Czechs are just as much, and thank God this is so because they deserve it, so Europe is changing and its time for Eastern Europe to take a stance.

Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithanua, Czech, Slovakia, Ukraine, Croatia, Bosnia, Romania, Hungary, Albania, Bulgaria and Kosova get ready cause your time is starting!!!

Kosova is part of this old Europe that has turned alive again and as a new vital part of Europe its important because its the engine that drives the Albanian nation.

I agree with post 1 completely. And I don't like this guy Thaci (a.k.a., the Snake) using the USG to serve his own personal aims (i.e., so that he can add his statue to the thousands that already dot the country... er, province). On self-determination... keep in mind that most of the world lives under someone else's thumb. A human right my arse. Try telling that to the Serbs that used to live in Prizren, or... the kid hauling sacks of rice in Burundi.

Kosovo is of NO US interest whatsoever. Whoevers stated that Kosovo is important to the US because of the EU's move to the is kidding themselves and full of ignorance. Kosovo will not become an EU member for decades and even then will have no authority on matters. That of course is IF they even get in or IF the EU is still around then in a federal form.

What happened in Prizren to the Serbs and what is happening in Burundi is not right, but if you're prepared to just forget and ignore those "human rights" then its very sad.

Whether or not Kosova is on the US agenda and whether or not EU will exist when Kosova joins i dunno, but Kosova can play a role in building Europe and making it stronger.

So as an Albanian and as nation we are willing to build Europe together with the rest, so why do certain people keep puting bumps in the road and keep putting down this nation? The only answer is irrational and unjustified prejudice.

The answer of that why, is that these certain people are originally from certain regions of the world.
1. Serbia
2. Russia
3. Greece
4. FYROM
5. France
6. Any slavic region supporting the pan slavic idea. The pillar of the idea is identical to Nazism. The Nazi's blamed everything on the Jews and wanted their complete anihilation; the pan-slavic supporters blame everything on the Albanians and want their complete anihilation.
7. Other regions i might have forgotten.
