Serbia seeks compromise solution for Kosovo, prime minister says

BELGRADE, Serbia-Montenegro (AP) - Serbia's government leader on Sunday expressed readiness to compromise over the disputed Kosovo province but ruled out a formal change of borders as demanded by Kosovo's ethnic Albanians.

Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica acknowledged that nearly five years after Serbia lost control over its historic, southern province where the local majority of ethnic Albanians took up arms to win independence, "we are facing the enormous task to ... ensure that internationally recognized borders of our country remain where they are."

Serbia didn't loose anything. Jugoslavia on the other side lost Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Fyrom and Kosova. They are not facing any task, Kosova's borders are internationally recognized and they were recognized even when it was under Jugoslavia. Koshtunica's words are the words of a delirious man.

Sorry to have to correct you. Though I work for an independent Kosova, I cannot agree with the idea that it is internationally recognized - if you mean to say recognized as a state. It has been recognized as a province, something that was of no importance internationally.
The sad fact is that:
1. Serbia took Kosova by violence in 1912-1913.
2. This was recognized internationally.
You do not gain anything by repeating the simplified claims that everything is already solved, since it is not.
Apart from that, Serbia is a neighbor. And living with a hostile neighbor is dangerous and expensive. Better find an agreement, for the sake of your children and grandchildren.

continued serbian control of Kosova is merely a prelude to future genocide...

same with Vojvodina...

Comment: "living with a hostile neighbor is dangerous and expensive"

This applies to all other neighbouring countries. In South-East Europe there is a country that just keep sticking to 1940-s style nationalism, which is a danger to everyone, not only Kosova/Kosovo.

Kosova, Bosnia and Albania, being the weakest, are most likely to be targeted, but Serbia will never "forget" Croatia, and if Montenegro leaves them, neither will them.

What Serbia needs is a good dose of Buddhism.

..Folks do keep in mind that US supremacy will not last for ever.
Sooner or later, like any big empire it is going to fade away.
When their support is gone you can only imagine what is going to happen - so it is better to find some compromise

US supremacy will last forever, GO USA . . . and if it is ever to fade just a little bit then Kosova Albanians would take over so rejoice.

And let's be independent so I never have to see Kostunica's drunken face again.

The poster who suggested compromise made an interesting point. If its acknowledged that Serbia is a threat if the USA fails as a superpower does that mean that:

A) Europe is weak and must not be accounted for
B) Serbia will never change and will continue to be a threat to all neighbouring countries
C) Kosovars should arm themselves with weapons that will bring about a status-quo

If these are all (more or less) how it is, then there must be a Keep-S-E-E-in-Peace alliance in South-East Europe, with an aim of keeping this country under control.

Most successful politicians during the last 15 years or so, have won the power by stealing the arguments of their opposition. Tony Blair, Jeltsin, Schröder, and more.
How come that no politician in Kosova has tried this trick with the Serbs?

Kosovo's borders are recognised not as republic borders but as province borders - Kosovo was province of Serbia! And Serbs are now paying for being naive - for they have allowed Tito to make such a devision of Serbia!Looks like we were the only one who really believed in the idea of Yugoslavia as unification of all nations - everybody else prepaired the ground for getting away with as much as they can get! And Tito made this devision of Serbia onto 2 provinces and main land because he wanted to weaken the strongest republic of that time! And he also encouraged Albanians to make children and was even godfather to every 9th child! This was not the only benefit - Albanians were allowed to live absolutely tax free on Kosovo! And not only tax free but also without paying any other bills! Oh and then when good old Tito (god bless him ) died and when there was time to pay to the state what was state's - Albanians started to riot "What to pay??this is braking of human rights!"they said! We kept them as endangered species here on Kosovo and when we aksed for something normal as paying taxes - the Albanians didn't like that! And they slowly started to make riots and problems....
Dreamers Albanians! Dreamers Albaninas!! You are in a dram now but you will wake up in a nightmare! When your US friends turn their backs to you!! Then you will have 10 million Serbs on your back ...Uf!Who will rejoce then!!
He who laughs last - laughs best!
