Text of report in English by Croatian news agency HINA

Pristina, 7 October: Kosovo Prime Minister Bajram Kosumi has welcomed UN Secretary General Kofi Annan's recommendation that talks on Kosovo's final status be launched.

In an address to Kosovo's citizens broadcast on the public television network on Friday, Kosumi called for the unity of political parties and citizens on the path of establishment of a democratic society that would serve as an example of tolerance and multiethnicity.

Kosumi said that Annan's decision, which is based on a report by Ambassador Kai Eide to the Security Council, marked the beginning of the most important period in Kosovo's history, which he said offered the prospect of independence. Stressing that a lot of work remained to be done, Kosumi called for unity in a bid to establish an independent and developed state of Kosovo.
