Voting ended Saturday in Kosovo's general election, the second in the UN-administered southern Serbian province since the end of the 1998-99 war.
Some 1.4 millon people were eligible to vote for deputies in the 120-seat parliament, which has responsibility for day-to-day matters under the more powerful UN administration set up at the end of the conflict.
Kosovo's electoral commission said turnout was about 41 percent four hours before the closing of the polls at 8:00 pm (1800 GMT).
But in the areas populated by the Serb minority, only a handful of voters came out to the polls, citing security fears and lack of improvement of their living conditions.
First preliminary results were expected by Monday.
