Brezovica resort to be privatized despite Serb opposition - UNMIK official

Text of report in English headlined: "Ruecker: Privatization of Brezovica will be done with or without Serb accordance"; carried by independent internet news agency KosovaLive

Prishtina [Pristina], 4 August: The head of UNMIK [UN Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo] Pillar IV, Joachim Ruecker, said in Strpce to the officials of this municipality and the head of Serbian delegation for economic issues that the privatization of the Brezovica tourist resort will be done even though he faces harsh accusations by the Serbs, who want that this process to be postponed indefinitely.

Ruecker made these comments following his visit to this tourist resort, where he called on the local Serbs to support the privatization process, by adding that this is for the good of this municipality.

Ruecker said that it is not in the interest of the local Serbs that the privatization of this tourist resort be postponed until the status is defined.

"The process of privatization will also be centralized after the defining of the status. Therefore, this means that municipal assemblies will not be in charge of this process," said Ruecker.

For the privatization of Brezovica tourist resort, several well-known companies have shown interest such as those from Austria, Germany, Croatia, Israel, and Serbia.

On the other hand, the head of Municipal Assembly of Strpce, Stanko Jakovljevic, and the head of the Serbian delegation for economic issues, Nenad Popovic, have accused Ruecker, because according to them, he is leading a process bought by "Albanian mafia".
