Jessen-Petersen: Haradinaj is determined to move forward (Koha)

‘Haradinaj has been appointed prime minister in full accordance with democratic and constitutional principles… therefore, this is democracy in action,’ UNMIK chief Søren Jessen-Petersen told Serbian journalists in Sofia after his meeting with Serbian and Montenegrin Foreign Minister Vuk Draskovic.

‘If ICTY takes further actions regarding this case, I am absolutely convinced that just as we saw democracy in action, we will see respect for judicial procedures. I am certain Haradinaj will know what to do and will do what’s right’, said Jessen-Petersen.

SRSG also said that Haradinaj is determined to move forward in resolving the issues of concern for minorities.

Belgrade-based Beta news agency reports that Draskovic handed over to Jessen-Petersen the conclusions of the Serbian Government about Haradinaj’s appointment as prime minister.

Beta says that both officials said they hoped pilot projects on creating ‘Serb municipalities’ in Gracanica and Shtrpce will be concluded very soon.
