ITU responds to UNMIK: Code for Kosovo refused

Express reports in its leading front-page story that the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) has turned down UNMIK’s request for a telephone code for Kosovo. The paper says that according to the ITU, the only possibility to get a code for Kosovo is to reach an agreement with Serbia on this issue.

Reliable sources in UNMIK told the newspaper that a senior ITU official had informed the SRSG on 9 September that despite all the efforts he couldn’t get the consensus of all ITU countries to designate a special code for Kosovo.

This is what UN-like marketplace organisations are like.

There wont be any code either. Kosovo will not be independent according to deep inside sourses. Sorry, but you all will see. Wait a year and then tell me.

My latest mid-level sources inside UNMIK tell me that there hasn't been a response from ITU yet but the issue has gotten so politicized between the ITU members that it will take a lot of time to get out of the melee. Usually in such organisations this means a practical "No".

It is a pitty that people in other countries do not know what this means for kosovars and it is more pitty to see how "democratic" people from other "democratic" countries drag around with dreams of other people whose fate was never in their hands. Hope this will change soon otherwise screw "democracy"!

According to the information that I read the ethnic albanians (KLA) took up arms to fight for independence and were losing badly until the US and NATO got involved. I think the western intervention screwed up the natural order of the region and needs to slowly reestablish that order the way it was. Otherwise this cycle of violence in order to achieve independence is just getting started.
